Shooting against the weather

Iceland is an extreme environment for a sound recordist: wind that kills every unprotected microphone, waterfalls drowning out speech, weather changing by the minute. Proper wind protection, microphone choice and quick decisions on location determined whether there would be anything to build from.

The mix

In post-production the Icelandic landscape became the narrator: wind and water carry the emotion of the scenes while the dialogue and the vows stay intelligible and close. Fifteen minutes in which sound does half the picture's work.
