Sound for Games & VR + AI and Realtime
Who it's for
Game and XR creators, experimenters and sound designers interested in the future: sound that adapts to the space and the player in real time.
The course builds on my thesis research into sound in horror VR games (analysis of Half-Life: Alyx and Transference, player heart-rate measurement) and heads where the field is moving: AI and realtime audio that adapts to space, audience and context.
It includes an interactive experiment in the Sound & AI Lab right on this site — you'll try realtime space manipulation in your browser.
What you'll learn
- Adaptive audio: systems reacting to player actions
- Binaural hearing, HRTF and immersion in VR
- Audio middleware basics and realtime parameters
- AI tools 2026: generative sound, spatial upmixing, realtime adaptation to space
- When AI helps and when you need a human ear
Syllabus
- 1Why VR scares us: sound and physiology (my thesis research)
- 2Binaural rendering and HRTF in practice
- 3Adaptive systems: parameters, states, transitions
- 4Sound & AI: realtime adaptation to space — Lab experiment
- 5Designing adaptive audio for your own project
